A Birmingham trio, MC3 won this year’s Budvar Brewed Jazz competition to find the best new talent playing in the UK's pubs. As usual the top three entries in the event came together for a play-off session to find the winner at the annual Cheltenham, Jazz Festival
(April 28-May 3) where for the past four years Budvar has also been the resident beer and one of the event’s main sponsors.
According to the festival’s artistic director, Tony Dudley Evans, since its inception by the festival organisers and Budvar three years ago the Budvar Brewed Jazz program, like the wider festival, has grown in importance and is recognised by the jazz community as one of the high lights of the jazzers’ year. Proof of this is that entries for the event more than trebled this year.
