Best known to the elites of Notting Hill as the beverage and operations supremo of the Electric House private members club in the Portobello Road Alex Cassano is pictured here in his less familiar role as a roadie. Every Saturday he is out riding with his club the Greenwich Tritons, and there is no free wheeling with this lot. Although a member of a triathlon club of serious athletes Alex modestly laments that he is only a week-end warrior. “Long working hours don’t allow me to train more than twice a week” he says but nevertheless he is up for his first time trial races in Kent shortly.
A Budvar fan Alex acquired his Budvar jersey during a recent visit to the Czech brewery. Its one of his two favourite beers ( he declined to mention the other one). He is currently considering a proposal from Budvar’s public relations controller, Denis Cox, that he should do a sponsored bike ride to the brewery. “It’s a lovely challenge” says Alex “but time is the main problem, that and the fact I don’t even go to work on my bike – but on my beloved Vespa”.
