Both Budweiser Budvar Original and Dark have been described as two of the easiest beers to match with food. Because in the Czech Republic beer has always been drunk with food, even in the most sophisticated restaurants, Czech brewers have not engaged in the formal matching of beer with food which has been undertaken by so many of their UK counterparts.

Because of this few people in the UK realise just how versatile Budweiser Original and Dark in fact are. For instance Original is excellent with tapas, in particular with calamari and chorizo as well as with sushi. It also compliments dishes as varied as creamy pastas, spiced stews or simply fish and chips and salad.

Dark on the other hand goes perfectly with anything char-grilled, spare ribs or Jamaican jerk for instance. Likewise it goes well with the traditional English ploughmans (but best with dark rye bread caraway flavoured accompanying a slightly soured cheese) and vegetarian dishes like aubergine spring rolls as well as most fish dishes.

Original is particularly good added to certain dishes, like a marinade where tougher cuts of meat are used. This is because the beer has tenderising properties as well as contributing an extra taste factor. Also it is good added to batter for fried food. Besides contributing a distinctive enhancing flavour the beer also acts as a mild leavening agent.
